About the Multicultural Academy Camp

The AFL Multicultural Academy Combine Camp is being supported by the AFL Foundation, AFL Victoria in conjunction with Multicultural Program partner clubs - Collingwood, Carlton, Essendon, Hawthorn, Richmond, Western Bulldogs and North Melbourne.

The AFL Multicultural Academy Combine Camp will be held in Melbourne, from Sunday 19 – Friday 24 September (AFL Grand Final Week), and will also consist of Accommodation on Tuesday 21 September and Wednesday 22 September for the final squad of 30 players who will go into the High Performance Testing Process.

Multicultural Academy Combine Camp Objectives

To provide 80 young people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds (CaLD), within metropolitan and rural Victorian communities, the opportunity to engage in a unique football and life educational experience.

  • Learn about basic nutrition and healthy eating.
  • Gain an understanding of the football pathway from community football right through to the AFL competition.
  • Develop the leadership qualities of the participants attending the camp.
  • Enhance cultural identity.
  • Opportunity to listen to great coaches, past and present players.
  • Get some insights into what it takes to become an elite AFL footballer.
  • Learn recovery/rehabilitation techniques to look after your body.
  • Undertake elite testing to familiarise yourself with process and how performance is measured.
  • Develop an understanding of football history and traditions.
  • Improve and develop personal self esteem.
  • Develop cultural awareness & understanding.
  • Improve skill techniques, game tactics and team play.
  • Opportunity to train at top level facilities such as MSAC, Arden Street, Westpac Centre, Windy Hill & Visy Park.
  • Opportunity to experience alternative activities such as lessons and activities by Life Saving Victoria.
  • Opportunity to attend AFL Hall of Fame and National Sports Museum.
  • Challenge sessions and educational workshops with Victoria police.

We see this combine camp as a unique opportunity to identify, encourage and promote AFL Multicultural development and participation.
